Product Rating What is your opinion of this product? Super solid constrcution that holds a ton of line. However, putting a ton of line on it makes it kind of heavy. Not the easiest reel for letting line out fast. \ \ Regardless of how you position the cranks, it is still a challenge to reel in a hard pulling kite . . . especially if you have let a lot of line out. \ \ For my flying uses, it's hard to beat a big hoop spool.

What is your opinion of this product? The Windbreaker really proved itself to-day. With winds gusting up to 30 mph I was able to reel in a very hard pulling kite without having to walk it down. It wasn't easy but it was far better than using a Hoop Spool in these conditions - something that would be very dificult without having someone to assist in walking it down. In gusty conditions with the handles at the ends the wind was sometimes so strong that it caused the reel to turn in my hands. However, by holding one handle in one hand and by gripping the opposite side of the reel in the other it was possible to prevent this, making it much more secure and comfortable. \ This is a very well made product and an excellent buy. While Hoop Spools are great for lighter pulling kites, I will always use the Windbreaker with a hard pulling kite.
Loved this reel the first time I used it

What is your opinion of this product? Loved this reel the first time I used it! I usually fly my kites at the beach and the wind is super strong. I never have a problem reeling my 9\ Delta in. The construction is rock solid... at Pensacola beach my drunk friend dropped the reel 3 times.. twice it hit the frames of empty canopies. (Bad storm that weekend and the beach was empty of people just there stuff was left). The last time it skimmed waves until I dove and caught it! Still works like a charm!"

What is your opinion of this product? I like the interchangable handles that allow you to easily let out line and then let you to quickly reel it back in. You can reel in 1500 feet of line in about 20 minutes or less with light winds. The handles fit perfectly in you hands. Using this can be a challenge to control larger kites (9' +) in higher winds. The line can sometimes get caught on the side ends during winding. My suggestions for improvement would be to bevel (semi circle) the side ends inward to minimize this problem and to guide the line that may hit the ends to center spool. \ \ I recommend that you do not load your line under high tension. While deep sky flying I had 3200+ feet loaded onto the spool under high tension and the one side blew out. This occured while flying a 12 foot kite using 150 pound test of dacron line. \ I still recommend this winder for kites that are 9 feet or less flown with moderate to light winds.

What is your opinion of this product? I like this winder, within acceptable limits this makes winding down my kites much easier, bring a wrench as in different conditions you will be adjusting the handles.

What is your opinion of this product? The windbreaker kite line real is really good when the line tension is never more than 10 lbs during reel in. I used it with the Double DC Stratosphere and ended up collapsing the center separator on both the Windbreaker reels that I use. It is made of laminated wood with 10x32 through bolts . The measured line tension was never more than 20lbs during the reel in using 100 lb Dacron line. I will order a replacement windbreakers but will strengthen them with 1/4x20 bolts and a solid 3/4" oak separator. ITW sells some really good kites, so it would be great if they also make available some good deep sky reals that can handle 3000ft 150lb lines with line tensions up to 30 lbs during reel in.
