Product Rating What is your opinion of this product? I have large hands and wear leather gloves when kiting, and this spool works very well for me. It's size lets line out quick and allows reeling in really quickly also. It can be a handful for me in good winds, and I think a person with smaller hands might really have a difificult time holding on to this with one hand while pulling and winding line with the other in any kind of winds above breezes. It says "Unbreakable', but other reviewers here say that's a stretch. I haven't had mine that long to say either way, but it is a nice large winder hoop for me.
    It's nearly the size

What is your opinion of this product? This is my favorite line handler, although the large 9 inch hoop may be too big for smaller hands. The 8 inch is may be a better compromise between being able to pull line in quickly and fitting medium to smaller hands. \ \ There is no better style of line holder that is easier to let line out quickly than a hoop spool. (note: it's a good idea to wear leather gloves when using a larger hoop spool to allow it to spin out line or to crank in the many meters of line you've let out.)

What is your opinion of this product? This spool is quite large as the other reviewer pointed out, but it does the job really well. If you have small hands you might want a smaller spool, but I really like this one. It takes in a lot of line and makes quick work of 500'. After using this one, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the hoops.
These halo spools are the best spool I've found for ease of use

What is your opinion of this product? These halo spools are the best spool I've found for ease of use, quickly letting line out, quickly pulling line in, etc. But DO NOT believe what's stamped on them--they are NOT "unbreakable." I have several 9" and one 8", and all but one have cracked where the spool seat curves into the sides. (I'm online now to order replacements.) My 8" spool also warped severely, which probably caused the cracking. The line may have been wound too tightly, may have shrunk as the line dried out after being exposed to damp seashore air and thus tightening its grip on the spool, or maybe these spools just don't stand up over time. Mine are about a year old and seemed pretty tough when new but also seemed to turn brittle over time, even though they're stored out of the sun, out of the heat. Still, they're the best kind of spool I've found, especially if you're going to fly a larger kite in stronger winds, so my advice is to buy the halo spools but also get a spare or two. I use my kites for KAP--kite aerial photography--so a catastrophic failure of my line spool during a flight could be pretty expensive. Spares are relatively cheap, and it's pretty easy to transfer line from one to another if you notice any cracks forming.

What is your opinion of this product? It's nearly the size of a dinner plate and too big to fit in my kite case, but I'm still glad I went big; winding speed is important to me, especially with a thousand feet of line. The fact that it's 2" wide makes it much easier to avoid missing when I'm pulling line onto it, but this also means that fatigue starts setting in after a few minutes of winding because of how I need to extend my fingers in order to get a good grip on it. It's made of thicker plastic than the smaller ones, but I still refuse to believe the ironic "unbreakable" stamp on them; I once owned a 7" one of these that developed cracks that slowly and gradually grew until it was unusable. But at least the nature of the plastic is such that it didn't break abruptly under pressure; there were plenty of warning signs that it was time to get a new one, and it still worked quite well even when damaged.
